The DeManincor cooking suite in the story of a historic estate

Uniting Michelin-calibre culinary precision with Artichoke’s heritage-driven craftsmanship

December 5, 2024

Great design lives at the intersection of heritage and innovation. The DeManincor suite exemplifies this philosophy, fusing the finest culinary engineering with timeless craftsmanship.

In our recent work on a historic estate in Switzerland, we partnered with DeManincor to create a bespoke industrial cooking island for the Chef’s Kitchen. This centrepiece was tailored to the demands of a Michelin-calibre chef, while honouring the aesthetic integrity of the home.

Why DeManincor?

Since 1828, DeManincor has been synonymous with bespoke culinary solutions. Founded in Trento, Italy, the de Manincor family began as blacksmiths, crafting wood-burning cookers and cooking machines for private residences and the hospitality sector. Over five generations, their reputation has grown, becoming a trusted name in luxury kitchens worldwide.

From London’s Dorchester Hotel to private estates across Europe and the world’s top Michelin restaurants, DeManincor is celebrated for blending artisanal heritage with cutting-edge innovation. Each bespoke piece reflects a mastery of craftsmanship, built to perform impeccably and endure beautifully.

At Artichoke, this commitment resonates deeply. To own a DeManincor range is to embrace a philosophy of thoughtful living: an appreciation for artistry, functionality, and the enduring value of well-made objects.

A Collaboration rooted in purpose

Our collaboration is rooted in a shared passion for creating spaces that are both functional and meaningful. By integrating DeManincor’s bespoke cooking suite into our design, we crafted a kitchen that embodies reliability, exclusivity, and beauty—elevating the space for our clients and their guests, with a sense of indulgence and purpose.

A timeless kitchen with bespoke light green cabinetry, glass-front cupboards, brass fixtures, and a large island with wood countertop.

The value of enduring excellence

When considering the value of investing in a premium product, the conversation naturally centres on the client’s motivations and aspirations. At its heart is the question: how does this piece align with their long-term goals and values? For many of our clients, the answer lies in seeking something that not only performs exquisitely but also endures—offering beauty and functionality for years to come. “What does it mean,” they often reflect, “to own something that mirrors my taste while lasting a lifetime?”

Such a purchase transcends its immediate cost; it becomes a commitment to timeless quality and artistry. While the initial expense may prompt deliberation, the peace of mind and lasting satisfaction gained from choosing excellence far outweigh the fleeting considerations of cost.

A spacious, elegant kitchen with a bespoke island of stainless steel and gold, glass-front cabinets with curated glassware.

It is only fitting that a creation of this calibre reflects the decades of mastery and craftsmanship it embodies, ensuring it becomes not just a feature of a home, but a cherished part of its story. Clients who value enduring quality instinctively recognise the profound, both practical and emotional, rewards of such a choice.

Bespoke design for exceptional functionality

This commitment to enduring quality is exemplified in the heart of the Chef’s Kitchen: a bespoke three-metre-long DeManincor cooking island. Crafted to embody both professional-grade functionality and heritage-inspired design, the island reflects the very values that underpin a thoughtful investment in excellence.

It features:

~Professional cooking appliances including:

14kW Multizone Maxi Professional Induction for high-efficiency heat distribution.
Double gas burner hobs for versatile cooking.
Electric smooth teppanyaki plate with a water-flushing system for precision grilling.
Bain-marie for maintaining sauces and accompaniments at ideal temperatures.
Two 8-litre fryers, seamlessly integrated for professional frying needs.
Chef’s “spoon tasting” flushing bath system, a feature rarely seen outside Michelin kitchens, providing unparalleled convenience.

~Dual-sided pass-through oven:

Nearly 1 metre deep, this oven allows chefs to work efficiently from either side of the island, bridging professional needs with family cooking.

Additional features:

~An under-counter hot cupboard for maintaining plate temperatures.

~A commercial pot-filling tap for added convenience during service.

Every aspect of the island was carefully designed with the client’s needs in mind, from the functionality of the cooking surfaces to the burnished brass handrail running around its perimeter—a striking detail that ties the design back to the heritage of the home.

The bespoke extraction system

To support the island’s professional-grade functionality, we worked with DeManincor to design a bespoke enamelled steel ventilation canopy with brass detailing.

Elegant kitchen featuring bespoke stainless steel appliances, golden accents, glass cabinets, copper pots, and refined lighting.

This feature:

The matching ductwork, finished in brass accents, added an additional layer of refinement to the industrial components, blending them seamlessly into the wider design.

Elevating craftsmanship with Artichoke’s expertise

The DeManincor suite, remarkable in its own right, was elevated through Artichoke’s meticulous integration into the kitchen. Every detail, from the placement of appliances to the surrounding materials, was chosen to balance industrial precision with heritage-inspired warmth.

The surrounding cabinetry, crafted in European oak, and the Taj Mahal honed quartzite surfaces softened the stainless steel and brass, creating a kitchen that felt both professional and inviting.

A kitchen for all occasions

The DeManincor suite was designed to deliver professional-grade performance while ensuring it remained practical and intuitive for family use. The layout, appliance selection, and controls were thoughtfully configured to balance the needs of a professional chef with the simplicity required for everyday cooking.

This duality, combining Michelin-calibre functionality with the warmth of a family home, is a hallmark of Artichoke’s design approach.

DeManincor in the Family Kitchen

In addition to the Chef’s Kitchen island, a smaller DeManincor domestic range cooker was crafted for the estate’s Family Kitchen. This bespoke range, standing at 1.8m long, offered a more intimate cooking experience while maintaining the same level of precision and quality.
